Giving All (Part 3 of 3)

“And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on” (Mark 12:41-44).

We began this series of articles talking about giving ourselves first to God and now we conclude with the idea of giving all to Him as well. Now someone might say, “Randy, if we give ourselves first to God haven’t we in essence given all to God?” And right you would be!

Giving ourselves FIRST to God indicates not only our commitment to serving Him, but also our unwavering trust in Him. Like the widow exalted by Jesus in the above passage we too must place our trust in God in order to make our giving complete. Her giving lacked nothing. It’s not that God requires us to give Him all we have to make our giving righteous, but His desire is that we trust in Him so completely that even if we were to give Him everything we had our trust in Him would be such that we would never doubt Him to still provide for our daily needs.

Such giving, such trust, requires great faith. Such faith will prompt us to give ourselves, to give freely and to give all. It’s what God desires of us; it’s what He commands each of us; it’s what He expects us to develop! Question is, do I trust Him enough to truly give Him my all?
